Our Patient Hüseyin Bey's Comments: Laparoscopic Colon and Rectum Cancer Surgery

Diagnosing colon and rectal cancer can be a major concern for many people. However, today, thanks to laparoscopic (closed) surgical methods, patients recover quickly after surgery and regain their health. The process that Hüseyin Bey went through reveals the importance and advantages of closed colon cancer surgeries.

Complaints: Anemia and Abdominal Pain

Mr. Hüseyin first went to his family doctor because of his long-standing complaints of anemia, constipation and abdominal pain. These symptoms may be early warning signs of colorectal cancer. The family doctor's detection of anemia in his blood tests led Mr. Hüseyin to undergo further examinations.

Early Stage Cancer Diagnosis with Colonoscopy

The family doctor ordered a stool occult blood test and a colonoscopy to investigate the underlying causes of anemia. As a result of the colonoscopy, Mr. Hüseyin was diagnosed with early-stage colon cancer. Detecting cancer at an early stage greatly increased Mr. Hüseyin's chances of treatment. In addition, advanced tests such as PET CT and CA 19-9 tests were used to evaluate the extent of cancer spread.

Laparoscopic Right Hemicolectomy

Mr. Hüseyin applied for surgical treatment after being diagnosed with colon cancer. Doctors planned a right hemicolectomy surgery with a closed (laparoscopic) method. In this method, a few small incisions are made in the abdomen and the tumor part is removed with special tools. This method, which is less traumatic compared to open surgery, allows patients to recover more quickly after surgery.

The surgery was completed successfully and Mr. Hüseyin started to stand up and move the very next day. Thanks to the closed method, his post-operative pain remained at a minimum level and he was discharged on the second day.

Advantages of Laparoscopic Surgery

Closed colon and rectal cancer surgeries allow patients to recover quickly, both physically and psychologically. Mr. Hüseyin quickly returned to his normal life thanks to laparoscopic right hemicolectomy. Among the greatest advantages of closed surgery are:

  • Less postoperative pain

  • Less scarring thanks to small incisions

  • Shorter hospital stay

  • Faster recovery and return to daily life

Comments by Mr. Hüseyin

"I was very worried before the surgery. However, my doctors' recommendation of a closed surgery method put me at ease. I was discharged on the second day and was able to move around without pain in a short time. I got rid of my anemia and abdominal pain complaints. Thanks to this surgery, I feel like I have started my life over again."
