Be Afraid of Being Late, Not of Pancreatic Cancer!

Pancreatic Cancer Treatment:

Pancreatic cancer is a disease that can be treated with early diagnosis and the right treatment. Once pancreatic cancer is diagnosed, timely and effective treatment plays a major role in successfully managing the disease.

Symptoms

Some common symptoms of pancreatic cancer include:

  • Abdominal Pain Radiating to the Back: Pain that starts in the abdominal area and spreads to the back.

  • Indigestion: Digestive problems and stomach upsets.

  • Weight Loss: Unexplained and rapid weight loss.

  • Jaundice: Yellowing of the skin and eyes, usually caused by obstruction of the bile ducts.

  • Early Satiety: Feeling full shortly after eating.

Treatment Performed

Patients diagnosed with pancreatic head cancer usually undergo a Whipple operation. This extensive surgical operation involves removing the head of the pancreas, gallbladder, duodenum (the duodenum) and sometimes surrounding tissue. The aim of the surgery is to improve the patient's quality of life by removing cancerous tissue.

Preoperative Investigations

  • Abdominal Tomography (CT): Provides detailed images of the abdominal organs.

  • MRCP (Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography): Imaging of the bile ducts and pancreatic ducts.

  • ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography): Endoscopic examination of the bile and pancreatic ducts.

  • PET CT: Used to evaluate the spread of cancer in the body.

Post-Operative Investigations

  • PET CT: Checks if the cancer has come back after surgery.

  • MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging): Provides detailed imaging of the pancreas and surrounding tissues.

Important Note: In serious diseases such as pancreatic cancer, seeing a doctor quickly when symptoms appear is critical to the success of the treatment process. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment play an important role in the management of the disease and the duration of survival.
